Basilica of the National Shrine
of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
|On September 14, 1975, Pope
John Paul VI Proclaimed Elizabeth Ann Seton a saint-the first
American-born citizen to be given this honor by the Catholic Church.
Shrine sites include a very beautiful basilica, the original stone house where she established her religious community in 1809, and the white house where she began the Catholic Parochial School System in 1810.
